“There’s so many people coming in for the first time and they’re a little embarrassed . . . often they have never had to ask for anything before.”

NEIGHBOR HELPING NEIGHBOR

Mother and Son For many in the Portland area, Fish Emergency Service is their last resort. We see the need in their eyes and hear desperation in their voices. Some are single parents trying to feed hungry children. Many are elderly, unsure of what to do to make ends meet.

These are our neighbors: people who have just lost a job, have illness in the family or have other circumstances that make them unable to provide for themselves or their family.

For 41 years, Fish has been there to help.

We need Volunteers for the following:

Receptionist: A customer service oriented person to answer the phone, take messages, and schedule energy assistance appointments.

Drivers: We need drivers (especially on Tuesdays) to pick up food, clothing donations, and deliver food collection barrels. We provide the Van.

Storeroom Custodian: Oversee the unloading, weighing and proper placement of perishable and non-perishable foods. Replenish needed foods for distribution to clients. Maintain the cleanliness of storeroom and refrigerated equipment.

Clothing room Clerk: Sorting, organizing, and hanging donated clothes and maintaining a neat and orderly clothing room.

If you are interested in volunteering, please call Kathleen Butler at 503-233-5533.
